The “Through Their Eyes” podcast was developed as part of the nursing home’s wellcaring project—a collaboration between the occupational health and safety prevention team and the Support Program for the Autonomy of Seniors at CISSS de la Montérégie-Est.
This podcast puts listeners in the shoes of someone who is losing their autonomy. This powerful and profoundly human content is designed to get people thinking, encourage them to ask questions and help families and everyone involved in the care network to better understand the people who are experiencing this reality.
The podcast is written by patient care attendant Marie-France Hamel, and features warm and authentic voice of Marie-Paule Lagacé, 91, who tells a story inspired by real-life situations experienced by many seniors. To ensure the content is as rich and accurate as possible, a working committee was created and several stakeholders were consulted (families, chair of the residents committee, specialist informal caregiver coordinator, accommodation policy implementation advisors, communications services, etc.).
The podcast was then shared with managers, employees, families, volunteers and members of the residents committee. A survey of 200 people garnered a satisfaction rate of 95%. The comments were unanimous: This podcast is magnificent, touching and deeply human. This is a valuable tool for raising awareness among friends and caregivers about the importance of a compassionate, respectful and caring approach.
