At the Maison Paul-Triquet long-term care centre, part of CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale, the Dream Day project was launched by the living environment manager and our specialized educator to create memorable moments for residents.
The project seeks to provide our residents with one-of-a-kind, unforgettable experiences, helping them step out of their daily routine and relive activities that have always brought them joy. In addition to bringing immense joy to participants, this initiative strengthens bonds with staff and loved ones while promoting a better quality of life.
Each week, one resident gets the chance to spend a day doing something they love, based on their interests, life story and abilities. For example, one of our residents visited Quebec’s National Museum of Fine Arts, accompanied by our administrative officer, two days before receiving medical assistance in dying. Another resident went to the movies with their spouse and a caregiver. Finally, one resident fulfilled their dream of flying a plane using a flight simulator at AviaSim, accompanied by our physical rehabilitation therapist. On our next Dream Day, we’ll take 10 residents to a hockey game at the Centre Vidéotron in Quebec City, with caregivers and professionals by their side.
The results speak for themselves: heartfelt smiles, cherished memories and improved well-being for residents. Thanks to the collaboration between professionals and families, our Dream Day project proves that it’s still possible to have meaningful experiences and make dreams come true, even in long-term care. We’re proud of this initiative and the positive impact it has created.
